Gorillas in grandeur

Wilderness Bisate Reserve, the brand-new sister camp to multi-award-winning Wilderness Bisate, is now the grandest way to see the gorillas in their natural environment. From a privileged position perched on the crest of a forested slope, guest can gaze over Volcanoes National Park – an extraordinary sanctuary, where tradition and luxury both embrace the wilds of the forest.

Four exquisite en-suite villas (two of which can be linked to create a family room) are constructed entirely of thatch, basket-weave and timber to seamlessly echo their natural surroundings. As well as carefully curated décor, each boasts expansive living areas, viewing decks and private hot tubs. The main lodge follows suit with impressive views, elegant dining areas and cosy lounges warmed by roaring fires. The cuisine focusses on fresh, healthy ingredients, many of which are picked daily by a team of gardeners, chefs and even a resident agronomist.

Activities focus on gorilla trekking, and spending a precious hour with these gentle giants is a deeply moving experience. They are, without doubt, the stars of the show. In addition guests can enjoy guided nature and bird walks through the forest, golden monkey trekking, hikes to the ruin of Dian Fossey’s research centre, visits to the lodge’s reforestation initiatives, and indulgent massage treatments at the on site spa.

Wilderness Bisate Reserve has elevated the gorilla-trekking experience to a whole new level of style and comfort. This is the untamed forest, in all its wild glory, experienced in supreme comfort.
