Sarah Hoyland
Director & Founder of Journeys for Women
Travel has been the great constant of my life. I joined The Classic Safari Company in 1993 and became a director and co-owner in 2000 — and in the three decades since, the work has never stopped feeling like a privilege. Helping people find their way to the world’s most extraordinary places, and watching those places change them, is something I don’t take lightly.
Over the years I have stood on every continent on earth, twice, and the passion for discovery has never dimmed. Africa holds a particular place in my heart — it always will — but India, Latin America, the polar regions and countless destinations beyond have each left their mark. The breadth of that travel informs everything I do, from the itineraries I craft to the camps and lodges I recommend with confidence.
Journeys for Women began as an idea rooted in a simple observation: when women travel together, something rather wonderful happens. Meals become long conversations, days end in laughter, and moments of discovery become memories carried for life. I designed the collection to take women to destinations they might not otherwise feel equipped to tackle alone — and to ensure that when they arrive, every detail has already been thoughtfully considered. I personally design and host each journey alongside a circle of trusted collaborators, which means our guests travel with someone who already knows and loves the destination.
What I have come to believe, after all these years, is that it is rarely the grand gestures that stay with you. It is the everyday moments — a conversation shared over tea, the quiet pride of a local craftsman, the unexpected warmth extended to a visitor. Our journeys are designed to slow down long enough to absorb those details, and to leave both the traveller and the destination a little better for the encounter.
