Spreading across Sri Lanka’s south east Coast, Yala is the island’s second largest national park, and a hub for wildlife research. Its vast variety of ecosystems such as rocky outcrops, coastal areas, savannahs, wetlands and scrub forest are home to a diverse range of mammals, birds and reptiles. For those on the leopard lookout – there is no better place than this.
Leopard Safaris Yala... Tented Camp is fully mobile to ensure minimum damage to the environment. South African safari tents are complete with queen size beds and safari style ensuite bathrooms.
The camp is established in a picturesque location chosen for its natural beauty and conveniently shaded areas of forest, which keep the temperature inside the tents cool and provide you with some much needed respite from the sun.
You can expect to wake to the sound of tropical birdsong in the mornings, and it is common to see monkeys and squirrels racing through the canopy throughout the day. Given its isolation, the camp is blissfully quiet and the air is noticeably fresh. You can really make the most of this at dusk, when the sunset floods the entire sky with colour, or at night, when the sky is free from any artificial lighting and completely illuminated with stars.
Two game drives per day, in customized Toyota safari jeeps, take you right out into the heart of the wild, whilst a walk around the campsite gives you a chance to view everything up close and personal: tiny insects, the shoots and flowers of smaller plants, and the animal tracks.
