The lodge has panoramic views of Mount Kenya and to the Ngare Ndare Forest, is a supremely comfortable and luxurious lodge and totally in keeping with its surroundings.
Accommodation is in eight cottages all with an open fireplace, en-suite bathrooms and private verandas. Primarily built for privacy; each cottage is exclusively sited with its own special view, totally secluded from its neighbour. There is a central eating with huge fireplace looking onto the valley below. All food is freshly prepared in the kitchen with vegetables and farm... produce from the farm, freshly squeezed juice from the orchard and wines from around the world.
Borana offers an insight into the workings of a modern ranch, farming Boran cattle, as well as the opportunity to visit the lodge’s community and rhino conservation projects. Game drives are offered in the company of rangers and trackers with encyclopedic knowledge of the area and the wide diversity of flora and fauna. Other activities include game walks, night game drives, horse rides, mountain biking, bush meals where you want them and swimming in the horizon pool with superb views over the valley.
CONSERVATION
Borana conservancy is a 32,000 acre private conservation area hailed by Save The Rhino International as ‘Kenya’s most successful rhino sanctuary’. In 2013, a founding population of black rhino were introduced to Borana and the population has since thrived. Once settled, Borana and the neighbouring Lewa Wildlife Conservancy dropped their fences to form the Lewa-Borana Landscape (LBL), the largest contiguous rhino habitat in East Africa which spans 92,000 acres. The LBL currently hosts 12% (105) and 14% (98) of Kenya’s black and white rhino stocks respectively.
Borana’s unique conservation model commits all retained earnings from tourism and other commercial enterprises to the sustainable conservation of wildlife, it’s habitat and building local livelihoods. All proceeds from Borana Lodge are invested into a wide range of conservation efforts such as a mobile clinic, an education support programme, along with the training and welfare of 115 wildlife rangers.
