Sable Alley & Skybeds

Overlooking a thriving lagoon that’s connected to the Khwai and Sable Alley rivers, just a stone’s throw from the world-famous Moremi Game Reserve, Sable Alley is in an enviable location where the game comes to you.

The twelve guest tents are comfortable, spacious and stylish and built on elevated decks to provide uninterrupted views of the lagoon. They enjoy en suite bathrooms, private verandahs and the luxury of both indoor and outdoor showers. Two family units with interconnected tents are ideal for those travelling with younger safari-goers. The main lodge boasts a swimming pool, informal lounge and a casual outdoor seating area from which you can observe the resident hippo pod and large herds of plains game, elephant and buffalo coming to drink – an idyllic way to spend an afternoon.

The massive 440,000 acre Khwai Private Reserve comprises some of the most fantastically diverse habitats in northern Botswana, home to lion, leopard, wild dog, elephant, buffalo, sable antelope and more. Sable Alley’s expert guides will be on hand to interpret the sights, smells, and sounds of the bush during game drives in traditional safari vehicles and by mokoro (canoe). Being gently poled along the tranquil waters is a fantastic way to spot game on the banks and silently photograph the spectacular birdlife. Night drives provide encounters with nocturnal creatures such as leopards, porcupines and honey badgers.

THE SKYBEDS

The Skybeds at Sable Alley safari Camp offer a truly unique experience. Located deep within the Khwai Private Reserve they present the opportunity to spend a night under the stars, immersed in a 200,000-hectare wildlife-rich reserve and completely at one with nature.

Each ‘room’ is a three-story raised platform complete with full furniture including a mosquito-netted four poster bed, fully enclosed bathroom and flushing toilet. Illuminated only by lanterns they are romantic and ambient. Although simple and rustic in style, no detail is forgotten and comfort is never compromised.

Magnificent sunsets and spectacular skies are all part of the experience but the game viewing here is also outstanding.Overlooking an active waterhole you will be able to spot (and hear) wild dogs, lions, elephants, hyenas, zebra and more, plus an assortment of smaller nocturnal species such as porcupines, bushbabies, genets, jackals and honey badgers. During the day you can head out for a game drive in the private reserve where you may spy lion, leopard, wild dog, kudu, waterbuck, red lechwe, eland, impala, roan, buffalo, warthog and much more.

A full night of peaceful sleep cannot be guaranteed but the memories created and the stories you will tell on your return home will last a lifetime. This is an adventure not to be missed!
