The following information has been obtained from the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) Smartraveller website. However, as every country decides who can enter or leave through its borders, and entry and exit requirements can change at short notice, we recommend you reconfirm all requirements before you depart.
TO ENTER
If you travel to Egypt from Australia, you’ll need to provide a negative COVID-19 test certificate taken in the 96 hours before the time of the direct flight to Egypt or a present a vaccination certificate upon arrival. The vaccination certificate must specify a vaccine recognised by the Egyptian government and a QR code must be present. Egypt’s definition of fully vaccinated is the second dose of a recognised vaccine at least 14 days before departure. Verify entry requirements with local authorities before you travel as they can change at short notice. Children under the age of six (6) are exempt from these requirements.
Acceptable negative COVID-19 test must:
- be in English or Arabic
- include the hour and/or date the sample was taken
- be issued and stamped by an accredited laboratory
- display a QR code
- indicate the type of sample taken
- indicate the type of test taken (RT or PCR)
Depending on where you arrive from, you may be required to undertake an additional COVID-19 rapid test at Cairo International Airport.
Face masks can be mandatory in shared spaces, including indoor venues, as well as vehicles. You may be fined if you don’t. You may be required to provide proof of vaccination to enter certain locations. Follow the advice of local authorities.
TO DEPART
If you’re departing Egypt for a country requiring a negative COVID-19 test as a condition of entry, or transiting through a country that requires travellers to have a negative COVID-19 test, you must have a negative COVID-19 test (PCR). Y
If you’re travelling out of Egypt, you’ll be required to abide by the health requirements of the destination country and any transit countries.
VISAS
Australians can get a tourist e-visa online or on arrival. If you apply online carry a printed copy of your e-visa.
You can only pay for visas on arrival with US dollars or euros. You can’t pay for tourist visas with Egyptian pounds.

YELLOW FEVER VACCINATION
You need a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate to enter Egypt if you arrive from a country where yellow fever is widespread. Countries where yellow fever is a risk (World Health Organization). Find out about returning to Australia after exposure to yellow fever.
